1. Introduction
Lifeplanr ("we", "our", or "us") is a life planning progressive web application (PWA) that helps you visualize and plan your life across 90 years. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle your data.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have in relation to your data. By using Lifeplanr, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
2. Data Storage
Local-first by default. When you use Lifeplanr on the Free plan, all of your data — diary entries, life events, travel logs, financial records, people, health habits, and preferences — is stored locally in your browser using localStorage and IndexedDB. This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to our servers.
Cloud sync (Pro plan). If you upgrade to Lifeplanr Pro and enable cloud sync, your data is stored in Google Firebase (Firestore and Firebase Storage). Firebase infrastructure is hosted within the European Union and the United States. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Cloud sync is entirely optional; you can disable it at any time and revert to local-only storage.
Authentication data. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from Google. We use this information solely to identify your account and enable cloud sync. We do not access your Google contacts, calendar, or any other Google services.
3. What We Collect
We collect only the minimum information necessary to operate the service:
- Account information (Pro users only): email address, display name, and profile photo provided via Google Sign-In.
- Usage analytics (optional): if you have not opted out, we collect anonymous, aggregated usage data through Google Analytics 4 (GA4). This includes page views, feature usage patterns, device type, browser type, and country-level location. We do not collect or store any personally identifiable diary content, financial data, or health information in analytics.
- Error and performance data: we may collect anonymous crash reports and performance metrics to improve app stability.
- Payment information: if you subscribe to a paid plan, payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe. We do not store your credit card number or bank details. We receive only a confirmation of your subscription status and the last four digits of your card for display purposes.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to any third party.
4. How We Use Your Data
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and maintain the Lifeplanr service.
- Sync your data across devices when you enable cloud sync.
- Process your subscription payments.
- Provide the household sharing feature when you choose to use it.
- Improve the app through aggregated, anonymous analytics.
- Send you important service-related notifications (such as security alerts or changes to your account).
- Respond to your support requests.
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose other than operating and improving Lifeplanr.
5. Data Sharing
We never sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for their own purposes. We share data only with the following service providers, strictly as needed to operate the service:
- Google Firebase — cloud storage, authentication, and sync (Pro users only).
- Stripe — payment processing (Pro users only).
- Google Analytics 4 — anonymous usage analytics (can be opted out of).
- Vercel — hosting and content delivery.
We may also disclose data if required by law, such as in response to a valid court order or legal process under Norwegian or applicable European law.
6. Cookies and Tracking
Lifeplanr uses a minimal number of cookies:
- Essential cookies: required for authentication and session management. These are strictly necessary for the service to function and cannot be disabled.
- Analytics cookies (optional): Google Analytics 4 sets cookies to measure anonymous site usage. These cookies help us understand which features are used most and where users encounter issues. They do not contain any personally identifiable information.
You can opt out of analytics tracking at any time through your browser settings or by using a browser extension such as the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
We do not use advertising cookies, social media tracking pixels, retargeting scripts, or any third-party marketing trackers.
7. Progressive Web App (PWA) and Offline Use
Lifeplanr is a Progressive Web App. When you install it on your device, a Service Worker caches the application shell, assets, and static resources for offline use. This allows you to use Lifeplanr without an internet connection.
All offline data remains stored locally on your device. The Service Worker does not transmit any personal data. When you come back online, Pro users with cloud sync enabled will have their data automatically synchronized with our servers.
You can install Lifeplanr as a standalone app on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices directly from your browser. The installed app functions identically to the web version and stores data in the same way.
8. Data Export and Portability
You can export all of your data at any time from the account settings page. Your data is exported as a portable JSON file that includes:
- All diary and journal entries with mood data and tags.
- Life phases, events, and categories.
- People and relationships with birth dates.
- Travel logs and country data.
- Financial records, budgets, and FIRE calculations.
- Health and habit tracking data.
- App preferences and theme settings.
This file can be re-imported into Lifeplanr or used with other applications. We believe your data should always be portable and accessible to you, regardless of whether you continue using our service.
9. Data Retention and Deletion
Local data: data stored locally on your device persists until you clear your browser data or uninstall the PWA. You have full control over this data at all times.
Cloud data (Pro): if you cancel your Pro subscription, your cloud-synced data is retained for 90 days to allow you to re-subscribe or export your data. After 90 days, cloud data is permanently deleted from our servers and any backups.
Account deletion: you can delete your account at any time from the account settings page. This immediately removes your authentication credentials and queues all associated cloud data for permanent deletion within 30 days. You can also request immediate deletion by contacting us at support@lifeplanr.app.
10. Your Rights (GDPR and EEA Users)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have the following rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):
- Right of access — you can request a copy of all personal data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification — you can ask us to correct any inaccurate personal data.
- Right to erasure — you can request that we delete your personal data ("right to be forgotten").
- Right to data portability — you can export your data in a machine-readable format (JSON).
- Right to restrict processing — you can ask us to limit how we use your data.
- Right to object — you can object to the processing of your personal data for analytics purposes.
- Right to withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@lifeplanr.app. We will respond to your request within 30 days, as required by GDPR.
If you believe your data protection rights have been violated, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. In Norway, this is the Datatilsynet (Norwegian Data Protection Authority).
11. Household Feature
Lifeplanr includes a household feature that allows you to share selected data with family members or other people you invite. When you use this feature:
- Only data you explicitly choose to share is visible to household members.
- You control who is invited to your household and can remove members at any time.
- Each household member maintains their own private entries that are not shared.
- Shared data remains subject to this Privacy Policy.
12. Children's Privacy
Lifeplanr is not directed at children under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at support@lifeplanr.app and we will promptly delete it.
13. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including:
- Encryption in transit via TLS/HTTPS for all communications.
- Encryption at rest for all cloud-stored data in Firebase.
- Firestore security rules that restrict data access to authenticated account owners.
- Regular security reviews of our infrastructure and dependencies.
- No server-side access to your locally stored data.
No system is 100% secure. If you discover a security vulnerability, please report it responsibly to support@lifeplanr.app.
14. International Data Transfers
If you are located outside the United States, your data may be transferred to and processed in the United States or the European Union where our service providers (Firebase, Vercel) operate. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, including Standard Contractual Clauses and adequacy decisions where required by GDPR.
15. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. When we make material changes, we will:
- Update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
- Notify you via an in-app notification or email (for registered users).
- Provide at least 30 days' notice before material changes take effect.
We encourage you to review this page periodically to stay informed about how we protect your data.
