🔐 ACCOUNT & SYNC · FAQ

Account & Sync

Signing up, syncing across devices, exporting data, and deleting your account.

How do I create an account?

Open the app, click Sign up, and enter an email + password — or tap 'Continue with Google'. No phone number, no address, no credit card. Confirmation email arrives within a minute; click the link and you're in. Takes ~30 seconds.

Can I sign in with Google?

Yes — one-tap Google sign-in is supported on web and mobile. We only receive your email and display name, nothing else. You can switch between email/password and Google later by adding the other as a secondary login method in Profile.

How do I sync my data across devices?

Sign in with the same account on each device — that's it. Data syncs through Firebase in real-time: write a journal entry on desktop, see it on your phone within seconds. Sync requires a (free) account; offline-only localStorage users stay on one device.

Can I export all my data?

Yes — Profile → Export Data → downloads one JSON file with every feature's data (journal, trips, habits, finances, people, health, life phases). Open with any text editor or re-import to a future tool. GDPR-compliant, complete, unfiltered.

How do I back up my data?

With a cloud account: backups are automatic (Firebase handles redundancy). Additionally, Profile → Export Data gives you a downloadable JSON you can archive yourself. We recommend a manual export every quarter as a belt-and-suspenders backup.

What happens if I lose my phone or laptop?

If you have a cloud account: nothing — log in on a new device and everything's there. If you were using Lifeplanr offline-only (no account, localStorage), data is gone with the device. This is the main reason we recommend creating a free account.

How do I switch between accounts?

Profile → Sign Out → sign back in with a different email/Google account. Useful if you have separate personal and household accounts. We don't yet support multi-account on one device (quick switcher) — on the roadmap.

How do I delete my account?

Profile → Danger Zone → Delete Account → confirm. All cloud data is permanently deleted within 30 days (some log entries up to 90 days, per GDPR). Your local browser data (if any) remains unless you also clear it. No recovery after deletion — export first if you want a backup.

Can I have multiple Lifeplanr accounts on one device?

Yes — sign out of one and into another. Each browser session holds one account. Quick-switch UI is on the roadmap. Common use cases: separate personal + business journal, or family account vs solo account.

Can I transfer my data to a new account?

Yes — Export Data from old account → JSON file. Sign in to new account → Profile → Import Data. Verify everything synced, then delete old account. Process takes ~5 minutes. Useful if you want to change your primary email.

What if I forget my password?

Sign-in screen → 'Forgot password?' → email reset link sent within 30 seconds. Link is valid 1 hour. If you don't get the email, check spam. If your email itself is lost (no longer accessible), contact support@lifeplanr.app with your account ID; we can verify ownership via signup data.

Can I merge two accounts?

Manually only — export data from account A as JSON, import into account B (entries with conflicting dates merge by latest). Then delete account A. There's no automatic merge button because conflict resolution is judgment-dependent. We're exploring it.

Can I sign in with Apple or GitHub?

Apple Sign-In: yes (iOS-friendly). GitHub: not yet, low demand. Google + email/password are the most-used. You can link multiple sign-in methods to one account in Profile → Linked Accounts so you're not locked to one provider.
