✍️ JOURNAL · FAQ
Journal
Weekly entries, photos, voice input, and navigating the past.
Is the journal daily or weekly?
Weekly. Each entry covers one Monday–Sunday week and holds text, photos, a mood, and tags. This keeps the habit sustainable (one entry per week is 52/year — less pressure than 365) and matches the life-calendar grid. You can still write about specific days inside the week's entry.
Does the journal support formatting like bold and lists?
Yes — bold (Ctrl+B), italic (Ctrl+I), bullet lists, headings, quotes, and dividers. Markdown shortcuts work too (**bold**, _italic_). No full rich-text toolbar — just the essentials so the focus stays on writing.
Can I dictate journal entries with my voice?
Yes on browsers that support the Web Speech API (Chrome, Edge, Safari on iOS). Click the 🎤 button in the entry toolbar; transcription appears inline. Language defaults to your browser locale. Useful for long entries on mobile or when you want to capture a thought fast.
Can I add photos to my journal entries?
Yes. Each week supports up to 10 photos (Pro) or 3 (free). Drop, click-to-upload, or paste from clipboard. Photos are stored in Firebase Storage with a 2MB-per-file cap. Total photo limits: 50 on free, 500 on Pro.
Does the journal track streaks?
Yes — every consecutive week you write counts toward your streak. Miss a week and it resets the next Monday. The current and longest streaks show in the entry modal. Optional notifications nudge you on Sunday if you haven't written for the week.
Can I export my journal as a PDF?
Yes — Profile → Export Journal PDF. Generates a formatted book with all entries by date, optionally including photos and mood badges. Useful for backing up a year's reflections or printing a personal yearbook. Pro feature.
Does the journal support mood tracking and tags?
Yes — 10 mood emojis (grateful, calm, anxious, excited, tired, etc.) and free-form tags per entry. Moods show as colored badges on the calendar for a quick year-in-review view. Tags let you slice your year by theme ('family', 'work', 'travel') later.
Is there an 'On this day' feature?
Yes — the dashboard surfaces entries from the same calendar week in previous years, so you see what you were doing this week last year (and the year before). Makes the journal feel cumulative rather than disposable. Disable in Notification Settings if you prefer.
Can I write an entry for a previous week?
Yes — open Calendar view, click the past week, and write. Or open any entry and use the ‹ arrow in the header to step back. Entries are keyed by week, not by creation date, so backdating is just 'writing for a different week' — no special ceremony.
Can I import entries from Day One or other journal apps?
Day One and Journey both support JSON export. Lifeplanr accepts a flat JSON array of entries via Profile → Import. Each entry needs at least { date, text }. Photos require manual re-attachment. Full one-click import is on the roadmap for the most popular journal apps.
How long can a single journal entry be?
No hard cap. We've tested entries with 10,000+ words without issues. Sync size is the only practical limit — entries over ~1MB (rare) might slow cloud sync slightly. Most weekly entries are 100–500 words.
Can I print my journal as a book?
Pro users can export Journal as PDF (Profile → Export Journal PDF) — formatted with month dividers, photos, and mood badges. Copy that to any print-on-demand service (Lulu, Blurb) for a real bound book. We're exploring direct print-to-book partnerships.
How do I search across all my entries?
Calendar → magnifying-glass icon → full-text search across all entries. Filters by mood, tags, year. Search runs locally so it's instant even across thousands of entries. You can export filtered results to PDF.
What happens to my journal entries if I cancel Pro?
They stay. Calendar + Journal are free forever — that includes existing entries plus new ones you add after downgrading. You lose photo storage above the free cap (50 photos total) and PDF export, but text + mood + tags all persist.
